    ‘It Was Fun Being A Pirate’, Civil War Veteran And Politician, Tunde Akogun, Reminisces As He Turns 75

    RT. HON. (Col.) Tunde Akogun, former Hose Leader, House of Representatives (2003 – 2007), yesterday hosted his alumni, the University of Ibadan (UI) old students, to a party in commemoration of his 75th birthday. he turned 75 on July 17. Speaking at the occasion, the Nigeria/Biafra civil war hero, who was in the 3rd Marine Commando, reminisced on his days in the university. He remarked that, ‘it was fun been a pirate’, noting that ‘ground men don’t see pirates’. He laughed about the mystique around the group, which many have argued is a deadly university cult group. Rt. Hon. Akogun expressed sadness at the level of decadence in society charging his fellow alumni to rise up to the occasion.

    Together with his wife, Dame Tumini, whom he met during the war, Rt. Hon. Akogun hosted many digniaries including Hon. Hassan El-Badawy, OFR, mni, H. E. Nkem Wadibia-Anyanwu, OON, mni, Bar. Ismaila Alasa, Chairman, UI Alumni Association (UIAA), Mr. Benjamin Ekeyi, Vice Chairman, UIAA and Chukwuemeka Okereafor, Publisher, Naija Magazine Online, himself an alumnus of the university.
